The City of Winona Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with the Winona Lions Club, invites residents to a public input meeting to discuss the proposed addition of pickleball and basketball courts at Sobieski Park. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Sobieski Park Lodge.
The Winona Lions Club has generously committed to fundraising the full cost of the project reflecting the Club’s mission to improve health and wellbeing, strengthen communities, and support those in need. The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking input from residents to ensure these new facilities meet the needs of the user group.
Meeting Highlights:
- Discuss the current conditions of the tennis and basketball courts.
- Discuss the proposed design, layout, and function of the courts.
- Explore how these courts can benefit residents of all ages and abilities.
“We are incredibly thankful to the Lions Club for spearheading the fundraising effort for this project,” said Patrick Menton, Director of Parks and Facilities. “The current courts have deteriorated to an unplayable condition and were not included in the Sobieski Park Lodge project a few years ago. Not enough funding is allocated annually to repair all the hardcourts in the City, so their generosity means we can bring these improvements to Sobieski Park without adding to the taxpayers’ burden. Now, we want to hear from the community to make sure the project meets everyone’s needs.”
Residents unable to attend the meeting are encouraged to submit feedback via email at recreation@winonamn.gov or by calling the Parks and Recreation office at 507-457-8258.
