For more than seven years, Winona has been working to become a dementia friendly community. What does this mean for Winona? It means that we are working to have meaningful engagement for people living with dementia and their family and friends, such as our weekly Forget Me Notes choir and Memory Café. It means that if someone looks confused or lost, everyday Winona citizens have been informed on how to offer help or support. Being a Dementia Friend is like being a good human being. Help Winona continue its work on becoming a Dementia Friendly Community by becoming a Dementia Friend. To date, Winona has over 2,200 Dementia Friends. A membership to the Friendship Center is NOT required.
Dementia Friends Information Sessions
Dementia is not a specific disease, but a term that describes a wide range of systems associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills. Change the way you think, act, and talk about dementia by becoming a Dementia Friend. In one hour, learn how to effectively communicate and support people living with dementia. Help Winona be a safe and supportive community for all. Information Sessions are added frequently.
